What existing players need to know
The entry price and whether players can buy an advantage are different questions. Jagex has named integrity and permanent progression as principles, without publishing the systems that would settle those concerns. Start with pay-to-win, permanent progression, Dragonwilds ownership, old-account progress, or membership.
There is no announced preparation route that grants RS4 benefits. The practical step supported by the announcement is to follow the official project and register interest with Jagex; registration does not guarantee access.
Check a test invitation or download
Open the official RS4 page independently and look for a matching announcement before acting on an invitation. Do not enter a password or recovery code through an unsolicited message. Jagex advises checking official news to verify promotions and being wary of impersonation and requests for personal information. A familiar-looking address alone is not a safety guarantee.

Existing players
Will RS4 replace OSRS or RuneScape 3?
Jagex says RS4 will coexist with Old School RuneScape, RuneScape and Dragonwilds as a separate experience. Those games have their own teams, roadmaps and continued investment.
Will my account, character, items, or progress carry over?
Account arrangements and progress transfers have not been announced. The design principle of lasting progression does not promise migration of existing characters, items or subscriptions into RS4.
Will RS4 be free, a purchase, or a subscription?
Pricing and membership details have not been announced. Existing RuneScape membership and Reignited offers do not establish what RS4 will cost.
Will RS4 be pay-to-win or sell an advantage?
Jagex names integrity as a design principle, but has not set out the business model or rules for buying in-game benefits. The price of entry and the ability to buy an advantage are separate questions. The announcement does not promise zero microtransactions, rule out every paid boost, or confirm an OSRS-style model. A fairness principle is not a published shop policy.
What does permanent progression actually mean?
Jagex presents permanent progression as a design principle, alongside integrity and community involvement. It has not explained the account or progression systems. The phrase alone does not promise that an old character will transfer, that tests will be wipe-free, or that items will work across games. Those arrangements need their own explicit confirmation.
Do I need to buy or finish Dragonwilds before RS4?
The announcement does not set Dragonwilds ownership or completion as an RS4 requirement, nor announce a reward for either. Dragonwilds is a separate survival crafting game; RS4 revisits Ashenfall later in the story. Play or buy Dragonwilds for its own experience, rather than for an unannounced RS4 qualification or benefit.
Will training my existing account give me an RS4 advantage?
No transfer reward or advantage for training an OSRS or RuneScape character has been announced. RS4 is a separate experience, and account arrangements remain unspecified. Can I play RS4 or join a beta now?

When should we expect to hear more?
The October 2026 announcement promises further information the following year, meaning 2027, about the world, the game, the team and ways to get involved. No specific date or test schedule is given.
Is RuneScape 4 the final name?
RS4 is a working title for Jagex’s fourth-generation RuneScape project. A final name has not been confirmed.
Can I play RS4 on PC, mobile, or console?
Platforms and system requirements have not been announced. Availability of OSRS or RuneScape on a device does not confirm RS4 support for it.

Will RS4 still use point-and-click controls?
Jagex has not confirmed a control scheme. Neither point-and-click movement nor alternatives such as WASD or controller support should be treated as settled. Sharing Unreal Engine with another game does not establish shared controls.
Has RS4 combat or playable gameplay been demonstrated?
The linked video is a concept teaser. The announcement does not detail combat, and the teaser should not be treated as confirmation of final playable systems. Jagex has not provided enough information to establish how battles or moment-to-moment controls will work.
What skills, classes, or progression systems will RS4 have?
No detailed skill list, class system or progression model has been announced. Jagex names lasting progression and community involvement as principles, but those do not specify individual mechanics or builds.
Is Dragonwilds actually RuneScape 4?
No. Dragonwilds is a separate survival crafting game. RS4 is a new MMORPG set later in Ashenfall’s history. A shared continent does not make them the same game or confirm the same gameplay.
Is RuneScape Reignited the same thing as RS4?
No. Reignited brings restoration and a refreshed starting experience to the existing RuneScape game. RS4 is a separate new MMO project. Reignited dates, features and offers are not RS4 launch or beta details.
