RS4 timeline: Dragonwilds, the Sixth Age and what comes next

Separate the real-world development timeline from RuneScape’s fictional chronology, including RS4’s connection to Dragonwilds.

There are two timelines to keep separate: when games are announced, and when their stories take place.

Real-world milestones

  • 31 March 2025: Jagex announced Dragonwilds, introducing its survival adventure in Ashenfall.
  • RuneFest 2026: Jagex revealed the RS4 project. This guide was first published on 4 October 2026.
  • 2027 — further information planned: In its October 2026 announcement, Jagex says it will share more the following year about the world, the game, the team and ways to get involved. No particular day, beta schedule or launch date is attached to that promise.
  • Release — no date announced: Jagex describes launch as several years away. The 2027 information milestone must not be reported as a 2027 release window.

What to do before the next reveal

Watch the official concept teaser and register interest with Jagex. Interest registration does not itself grant access to a test. Our source checks distinguish coverage changes from new official announcements.

Story order

Dragonwilds’ events come before RS4’s announced story. RS4 is set in the Sixth Age, after Kuldra’s destruction. An exact interval in years has not been provided.

Reading future updates

A release window describes development; an in-world age describes fiction. Record them separately when comparing a new announcement with this guide. Our news archive is organised by publication date.
