RuneScape 4 Release Date: Status & 2027 Plans
RS4 has no announced release date. Understand Jagex’s years-away wording, what the 2027 update means, and how to follow confirmed launch or beta changes.
RuneScape 4 has no announced release date or release window. In the October 2026 announcement, Jagex describes launch as several years away. There is no official year to put on a countdown.
Does the 2027 update mean RS4 comes out in 2027?
No release commitment accompanies that year. Jagex says it plans to share more information the year after the announcement: about the world, the game, the team and how players can get involved. That points to 2027 for further information, not a confirmed launch or test.
An announcement, a test invitation and a release date answer different questions. A future presentation could explain development without offering something playable. Even an announced playtest would not establish the full game’s launch date unless Jagex said so separately.
Announcement and release timeline
| Milestone | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| RuneFest, October 2026 | Jagex reveals its new RuneScape MMO project and concept teaser. | A playable release or beta schedule. |
| 2027, more information planned | The next stated information milestone, including ways to get involved. | A 2027 launch or guaranteed testing access. |
| Launch, several years away | The project is at an early stage. | A specific year, quarter or month. |
“Several years away” is qualitative guidance. Turning it into an exact year would add a prediction that the publisher did not make. The separate world and development timeline also distinguishes these real-world milestones from RS4’s Sixth Age setting.
Can I play anything before release?
The initial announcement does not offer a playable RS4 build. Jagex has an interest form, but submitting it is not immediate access or a guaranteed invitation. Our beta and playtest guide explains what that form does and how to verify a future access offer.
Dates for RuneScape Reignited, OSRS or Dragonwilds do not apply to RS4. Check the game named in a headline before treating its date as an RS4 milestone; the game comparison explains the names.
How to follow a real release announcement
Use the release-date RSS link below for a confirmed change to the launch answer, or the next-update feed for information milestones. They are separate so an announced presentation does not become a release alert. Each recorded change needs a dated explanation and an official source. Rechecking an unchanged announcement does not create a new feed item.
The official RS4 page remains the publisher’s starting point. This page is an independent explanation of that information, not a release schedule issued by Jagex.
