RS4 Account Transfer: Progress & Membership

Will your RuneScape account carry over to RS4? Separate login, character progress and membership, and understand what permanent progression does not confirm.

Jagex has not announced RS4 account arrangements, character transfers or membership entitlements. It has said RS4 will coexist with the current games as an independent experience. Being part of the RuneScape family does not itself establish shared progression or access.

Three different things people mean by account transfer

The question What would need confirmation Current position
Can I use my existing login? Account and sign-in arrangements. Not announced.
Can I bring my character or items? Transfer rules for levels, quests, bank items, currency, cosmetics and achievements. No transfer arrangement announced.
Does my membership cover RS4? Subscription scope, benefits and any separate purchase requirement. RS4 membership terms not announced.

These are independent decisions. Even if a shared login were confirmed later, it would not prove that characters transfer or that one subscription covers both games. A future announcement should be read for the exact entitlement it grants.

What permanent progression does and does not mean

Jagex names permanent progression as a design principle alongside integrity and community involvement. It has not described the underlying account or progression systems.

The principle alone does not establish that an OSRS or RuneScape character can migrate, that a beta will preserve progress, or that items will work across games. Each arrangement needs explicit confirmation. Treat the phrase as the studio’s stated direction, not a published transfer policy.

Does RS4 erase the value of my existing character?

The announcement says RS4 is an additional experience and that OSRS, RuneScape and Dragonwilds retain their own teams, roadmaps and investment. It does not announce replacing those games or moving their characters into RS4.

Your existing progress belongs to the game in which you earned it. Whether you want to keep playing is your own choice; there is no announced RS4 bonus for reaching a level or completing a preparation route in another game.

Do I need to buy something again?

That cannot yet be answered for RS4. Neither inclusion in an existing subscription nor a separate purchase has been announced. Existing RuneScape membership and Reignited offers should be assessed on their stated benefits. They do not establish an RS4 entitlement or beta priority.

For the distinction between the price of entry and paid advantages, read the pricing and fairness guide. If your question is about receiving a test invitation, use the beta guide.

Do I need to own or finish Dragonwilds first?

No such RS4 requirement or reward is set out in the announcement. Dragonwilds introduces Ashenfall earlier in the fictional timeline, but that story connection does not make it an access qualification. Buy or play it for its own experience, rather than an unannounced RS4 benefit.

The questions below separate account rules, permanent progression and preparation choices. Each has its own feed so you can follow the decision that matters to you.

What does permanent progression actually mean?

Jagex presents permanent progression as a design principle, alongside integrity and community involvement. It has not explained the account or progression systems. The phrase alone does not promise that an old character will transfer, that tests will be wipe-free, or that items will work across games. Those arrangements need their own explicit confirmation.

Do I need to buy or finish Dragonwilds before RS4?

The announcement does not set Dragonwilds ownership or completion as an RS4 requirement, nor announce a reward for either. Dragonwilds is a separate survival crafting game; RS4 revisits Ashenfall later in the story. Play or buy Dragonwilds for its own experience, rather than for an unannounced RS4 qualification or benefit.

Will training my existing account give me an RS4 advantage?

No transfer reward or advantage for training an OSRS or RuneScape character has been announced. RS4 is a separate experience, and account arrangements remain unspecified. Progress in the game you enjoy has value there; the current announcement gives no basis for an RS4 preparation or grinding route.

Should I buy RuneScape membership now to prepare for RS4?

There is no announced RS4 access, beta priority or reward tied to buying existing RuneScape membership. RS4 membership arrangements have not been detailed. An existing-game subscription or Reignited offer should be judged on its stated benefits, not an assumed RS4 entitlement.
